We planted the first market row with lettuce and greens mixes! It's being providentially watered in with a nice spring rain today!

My husband also began a no-dig flax patch. We like flax for a number of reasons, 1) nutritional benefit of flax seed, 2) textile value as fiber, 3) pollinators drawn by the lovely blue flowers. We put down our newspaper weed barrier and began topping it with aged compost. Once that is completed, we will sow flax, likely next weekend so that we can take advantage of the coolest of the spring weather for our area.

The baby bunnies are doing well! We did lose one runt of the litter, which is always a sad time on the homestead. I take comfort knowing its last moments were spent with me in warmth and comfort. The remaining 8 kits from the litter are all plump and thriving though, and Heather is proving to be a spectacular Mama. The nesting box comes out next weekend when the babies are 3 weeks old.

The silver fox bunnies will be weaned and available at 9 weeks, beginning 5/22/22, pedigrees available. We have not sexed the bunnies yet (determined gender) so we are not certain how many males or females we have, we will be doing that when the babies are 6 weeks old. Message us for more details or with any questions you may have.

We're currently awaiting the arrival of the first-of-the-season goat kids on the homestead. Luna is pregnant and due the first full week of May. She went a little later than average last year, about 157-158 days gestation, so we expect her to do the same this year. This is her 3rd freshening, 2nd on our homestead, and she's filling out nicely. The goats were excited to get out on fresh browse on Monday, and they're waiting for the rain to pass so that they can get back to it.

Lots of excitement coming up! Stay tuned!
